LSFDC: Continuing the Tradition
By John Vince Montoya
We all know that Philippines has really a long and diverse history to tell. One of its ways is the dances that depict the way of life of Filipinos before. Each region in the country features its own ethnic dances and music. These originate from the time of the pre - colonial era to the time of the Spanish period from 1500s and until late 1800s. Most of these folk dances show and tell stories of our ancestors’ way of life, cultural events and happenings, cultural influences and religious views ad customs.
The new generation today may have forgotten our culture, but with the help of the Filipino youth who has passion and love for our own ethnicity, It is now becoming easy by collaborative performances by Filipino culture advocates. One of these groups can be found in our own Alma Mater, the La Salle Filipiniana Dance Company. It was formerly know as La Salle Filipiniana Dance Troupe and was establish on June 1993 by Eliza Domingo with its pioneer members, Junaidi Garcia Bambilla and Rommel Serrano. For the piloting year, she serves as the official choreographer.
The company aims to nurture and preserve Filipino Culture and elevate the art, folk and ethnic dances and music in our country by presenting to the Filipinos. With proper information about our rich and diverse ethnicity, the group believes that their mission is possible. LSFDC ambitions to empower the youth to become nationalistic citizen and build a better appreciation of COM43 the Filipino’s quest for pride in national identity through dance and music, to give a view of the country’s best cultural dances and to educate Lasallians and fellow countrymen about the richness of our history through informative and theatrical performances. All over the years, its work, existence and contributions have provided a significant influence to the Performing Arts Group and to the whole Lasallian community
