If you are a certified foodie, then I’m sure enough that you know about the latest craves for pastries nowadays— cupcakes! There are quite a lot of new cupcake shops opening in the metro and if you have no time to pay a visit, but you’re longing to taste that floppy yummy cupcakes, then fret no more! Cupcake Republiq has finally come to save you from craving and bring your favorite cupcake right at your door step.
Haven’t heard about them yet?
Cupcake Republiq had only started their operation last August 2014. A group of young inspiring entrepreneurs started this business because it was part of their business plan requirement for graduation— yes, you’ve read it right. Cupcake Republiq is owned by three young graduating students from the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. Amazing right? Teenagers, independently raising their own business, doing all the financial reports, budgeting, selling and even baking the cupcakes themselves.
The store owners, Ms. Chia Matinez, Ms. Jelly Lumidao, and Ms. Gianna Yusingbo are three young ladies who have been friends since their first year college. So basically they knew each other for quite a long time now and have decided to team up for their business plan project. When asked why they choose to sell cupcakes, Ms. Chia answers, “Madali kasi siyang gawin, and every girl loves to bake”. So where did the name Cupcake Republiq came from? “Uhmm…it just came up from nowhere eh.. nag-pop up nalang siya sa minds namin, basta, all we want do is, to establish our own cupcake store in Las Piñas City. Yun yung goal kase namin talaga.”—Ms. Chia.
Cupcake Republiq is an online store, so they sell cupcakes through online media and have their own Facebook and Instagram page. But aside from selling online, they also do personal selling—meaning they do house-to-house selling and at times they also get referrals. “Our friends, and family relatives where our first buyers and from that we started to get referrals, dun nag-simula mag boom yung business namin”, Ms. Chia says.
Cupcake Republiq’s slogan is, “Big Happiness on Mini Cupcakes”. According to Ms.Chia Martinez, the slogan came up because of the “feels” they have while baking. “You know kase, every time we bake, we are happy—laughing and sharing stories, we feel ‘warmth’, and that’s where we get the slogan, we want to share that ‘warmth’ to our customers”.
Getting inspired? These young entrepreneurs are not only setting the goal for graduation, but they also wanted to share and made their customers feel that happiness isn’t just about the big things you’ve acquired, often times, happiness could be also found on small things. “We wanted to see our customers smiling, not because the cupcake made their hungry tummy full, but because they felt happy eating it”—Ms. Chia.
